TV star David Hasselhoff has spoken in depth for the first time about his whirlwind romance with the young Welsh retail assistant he met by chance in a Cardiff hotel during the audition rounds for Britain's Got Talent. He took part in an exclusive photo shoot with 31-year-old retail assistant Hayley Roberts for this week's HELLO! magazine - in which the besotted couple recreate scenes from Hasselhoff's hit show Baywatch.The shoot took place on the same Malibu beach - Cypress Sea Cove - where much of the hit series took place (See www.malibufilmlocation.com for more info).
The 58-year-old actor and singer tells how he wooed his Welsh love with flowers, fancy clothes and a romantic trip to Switzerland, where they swam in an outdoor pool as snow fell all around them. "I was a gentleman that first night. I said she could have her own bed. Then we went to a health resort. I thought, 'Let's enjoy health and each other'."I quickly found out we have the same values, even though we're from very different worlds. "Asked if the difference in the backgrounds has led to any awkward moments, the divorced dad-of-two tells how he arranged for an "incredible restaurant" in Switzerland to be kept open just for them. But his girlfriend, who still lives at home with her parents in a small terraced house near Swansea, insisted he take her for a burger instead. "She looked at the menu and said, 'There's nothing on here I can eat'. I had to drive her to McDonald's on the way back to the hotel!"And whilst Hayley admits she initially had reservations about the 27-year age gap, David reveals that he hasn't ruled out marriage. "I'm not writing it off - who knows," he says. Asked if her beau tells her he loves her, Hayley - who also tells HELLO! how former Knightrider Hasselhoff sent hotel staff on a 200 mile trip to buy her a particular jacket -says: "He does. "After he says, 'I love you' he says, 'That just means I really like you. So I don't know if he means it or not. "He's a super amazing guy and I could spend all my time with him. He's perfect."
