The family of tragic Amy Winehouse have been left "bereft" by her untimely passing. In a statement released on Sunday, Amy's grieving mother Janis, father Mitch and brother Alex paid a moving tribute to the 27-year-old, who died at her North London home on Saturday afternoon. "Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister, niece," they said. "She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. "We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time."

A spokesman for the family said that a funeral would be held as soon as possible, but that as of yet no date has been set while police continue their investigations.

Following the news of his daughter's death, Mitch Winehouse flew back to London from New York where he had been due to perform at a series of jazz gigs.

Amy's mother, it has been revealed, saw her on the day before her passing when the two met up for lunch together in Camden.

Janis said Amy had "seemed weary, but that wasn’t particularly unusual as she always went to bed so late. "As mother and daughter kissed goodbye on the steps of the singer's home, she said: "I love you Mum.""They are the words I will always treasure and remember Amy by," said Mrs Winehouse.

The Grammy Award winner – who struggled throughout her career with addictions to drugs and alcohol - made her last public appearance on Wednesday when she appeared on stage with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield at a gig at The Roundhouse in Camden.Just two hours after news of Amy's death broke, Dionne (pictured with Amy in 2008) bravely took to the stage at a festival in Pontypridd in Wales and did not mention her godmother.Music promoters said she had been put under no pressure to perform and commended the 15-year-old on her professionalism.Tributes continue to pour in for Amy from both her fans and celebrity friends. And her much-acclaimed second album Back To Black is predicted to reach the number one spot in the UK album charts this weekend as supporters pay homage to the gifted, and tragic, young musician.
