Strictly Come Dancing viewers will have been looking forward to comparing Edwina Curry – dubbed Red Hot Curry by one judge – and her fellow evergreen contestant Nancy Dell’Olio, 50.  Sadly, we won’t get to see their supposed rivalry unfolding as the former MP's was the first to be voted off the contest.

When 64-year-old Edwina was first compared to the sultry Italian she made it clear she wasn't intimidated. "I'm deeply flattered about the alleged rivalry between Nancy and me... she's gorgeous," "But… I am a mother and wife twice, a grandma and great-grandma; I think I should be the one that's envied."

The former Conservative MP then turned her fire on herself, poking fun at her figure and dancing abilities. "Since I am heavier than (professional dancer) Vincent Simone by a substantial amount, he can't flip me over his head, but I can fling him”.At the weekend, Edwina danced the foxtrot around table and chairs in a routine supposed to evoke the atmosphere of a romantic dinner date.

But the former Tory MP's moves left the judges cold. After the performance, Len Goodman said: "Make the most of that meal, because it could be the last supper", with Bruno Tonioli comparing her to a "bendy bus".

Despite her quick exit, gung-ho grandma is still upbeat about her stint on the show, saying she had a "fabulous" time.

She also had some words of sympathy for her dance partner.“I feel sorry for Vincent, because he has worked very hard. He's been a terrific teacher.” In turn, he paid tribute to Edwina, saying: "I just want to say I've had so much fun with you, which I didn't expect because you were a politician. “So thank you for that."

She received a low score of 19 out of 40 from the judging panel to Nancy's 14.But it was the public vote that was the final nail in the coffin for Edwina as they chose to save her rival.
