Angelina Jolie shows solidarity with war-torn Libya

Angelina Jolie is currently on a two-day trip to Libya.The actress and UN goodwill ambassador is in the war-torn nation to support aid agencies. "I have come to Libya for a variety of reasons, to see a country in transition at every level and to witness efforts to fully realize the promise of the Arab Spring," the actress said.

The trip is Angelina's first to Libya, but she has previously visited Libyan refugees in Malta and on the Italian island of Lampedusa in June.She also went to Tunisia in April to appeal for international support for people fleeing the revolution there.On her Libya trip, she is meeting representatives from UNHCR, Medecins Sans Frontieres and local non-governmental organisations delivering assistance to Libyans in Misrata and Tripoli.

"I will be meeting with officials from all sides but above all, listening to the local people in the street. I am here to express solidarity with them. It is the work of rebuilding and recovery that will determine Libya's future. "A spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Adrian Edwards, said last week that it was discussing a bigger role for Angelina after receiving $5 million (£3.2m) in donations from her over the past decade.The actress has visited dozens of countries to promote the cause of refugees during her 10 years as a goodwill ambassador.
