Riding high: The Wild West nuptials of Lauren Bush and fashion heir David Lauren

November 18, 2011

It was a fairytale marriage of a gilded couple. In what marked a union of two powerful dynasties, Lauren Bush, the niece and granddaughter, respectively, of former presidents George W Bush and George Bush, married David Lauren, the youngest son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren in August. And the couple have now opened up about their Western-style, rustic nuptials, which took place at the Lauren family's private, 17,000-acre ranch outside Telluride, Colorado, to Vogue magazine.

“It was like a beautiful movie… Like you were riding across the old west and you stopped in at a wedding,” described David. The couple were certainly dressed for the part.

Lauren, 27, wore a long-sleeved, high-necked ivory gown embellished with crystals and lace that was designed by her famous father-in-law, Ralph, himself. The intricate nature of the beautiful Victorian-era gown reportedly required 100 crafts people spending 3,000 hours hand-embroidering the pearls and flower motifs.

A pearl-adorned headpiece and long veil completed the look. David, 39, had also adopted vintage style, his three-piece suit complete with a chain watch. The couple met in 2004 when she was an undergraduate at Princeton University studying anthropology and photography. Lauren is a model and has featured on the covers of Vogue and Vanity Fair and taken part in advertisement campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger and Abercrombie & Fitch. But the stunning young lady does not trade solely on her beauty and is involved in humanitarian work. She runs the successful FEED projects in which the money raised from sales of bags, designed by her, help feed underprivileged children. David, meanwhile, works in the family business and is the senior vice president of Polo Ralph Lauren.
