Queen of pop Madonna unleashes royal biopic W.E.

January 12, 2012

After spending months weaving a shroud of anticipation around her movie, Madonna finally unleashed W.E at its London premiere on Wednesday night.

A Kensington Odeon packed with elated fans and photographers was the singer's backdrop as she glided down the red carpet rocking a smouldering gothic ensemble. The film, which gives the star's take on the love story between King Edward VI and American temptress, Wallis Simpson, seems to have given entertainment's passionate first lady a more sober view of love affairs.

"This movie shows that there is no such thing as perfect love, that all love requires compromise or sacrifice" Madonna said. "The other thing is that nothing is as it seems. You can look from the outside and think it's one thing but once you start investigating, it's something completely different." She continued: "It's like a human being. What you thought of them on the first day is not what you think of them a year later."

Madonna was joined on the red carpet by her stellar cast, including stars Andrea Riseborough, (pictured above) James d'Arcy, Richard Coyle and Natalie Dormer. The biopic received mixed reviews from critics, but its director wants people to watch it with their eyes and their minds wide open. "I hope people will leave the film thinking 'Wow', with a whole new perspective on the story" she said.
