January 16, 2012

Kate Winslet led the charge on a night of glory for British talent at the Golden Globes. The English rose was named best TV actress for her role in Mildred Pierce – and celebrated with a kiss from Ned RocknRoll, her boyfriend of four months.   He'd stayed out of the way as she made a glamorous entrance in a monochrome column by Jenny Packham. But there's no doubt Kate and her beau – real name Ned Abel Smith –  are very much in love, as they enjoyed a tender embrace when her win was announced.

On the stage, she dedicated her award to her "beautiful children Mia and Joe". "They light up my life every day. I'm so proud to be their mum". "I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for giving this award to me and for putting me in a category with such incredible heavyweights whom I feel honoured to stand alongside," she added.

Small screen phenomenon Downtown Abbey was also recognised in the best mini-series for television category. The show's creator, Julian Fellowes, said: "How fabulous this is. The whole Downton adventure has been an extraordinary one. "Like spotting a promising child and waking up to find they've have won the Olympics - and that's what we've lived through."

Meanwhile, after a Golden Globe nomination last year, Idris Elba looked thrilled to finally hold aloft the Best Actor trophy for BBC Drama Luther.
