David Furnish steps into the spat between Elton and Madonna

January 17, 2012

The dust has settled over this year's Golden Globes, but the ceremony seems to have revived the feud between Elton John and Madonna. Elton's partner, David Furnish has stepped into the spat that ignited after her song Masterpiece triumphed over the elder statesman of pop's offering Hello Hello. Writing on Facebook, David said: "Madonna. Best song???" Her winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit."

He added: "Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it's narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is". Speaking backstage at ceremony after her rival inaccurately predicted she "had no chance of winning", Madonna was diplomatic. "I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years," she teased. "He's been known to get mad at me so I don't know." "He's brilliant and I adore him so he'll win another award. I don't feel bad!"

The feud between the two music heavyweights dates back to 2004 when the Rocket Man singer accused his fellow chart-topper of lip-synching during her live shows.
