Glittering in a golden gown, Jennifer Lawrence seemed completely at ease with being the centre of attention. But the young actress, who is the star of The Hunger Games, confessed to being "terrified" out of her mind and like a "shaking chihuahua" as she attended the film's LA premiere.
Jennifer has been catapulted into the spotlight as the feisty heroine of the big-screen adventure. Based on Suzanne Collins' page-turner, it is set in the post-apocalyptic world of Panem – where North America once existed – which is ruled over by the central power, the Capitol. Every year, one boy and one girl from each of the 12 districts are selected to take part in the Hunger Games, a televised battle to the death that can have only one winner. The story follows 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer's character, who volunteers for the Games after her little sister's name is drawn.
She must hunt wild animals in the forest to feed her family – something that cinema-goers saw her do in Winter's Bone. The 21-year-old was nominated for an Oscar for her part in the drama.
But she has largely passed under the celebrity radar – until recently. Now she's part of a franchise that's likely to be as successful as Twilight and fans have been camping out overnight just to catch a glance of her. The starlet told Yahoo Movies that the reaction from the crowds of adoring fans was a taste of her "new life". She said: "I'm glad I took the role but I was absolutely right about the privacy. It infuriates me but I've got to realise this is my new life."
