Madonna turns pain of her divorce into pop gold

March 26, 2012

Lighting up the stage with an electric performance, Madonna hardly looks like a woman who's ever been hurt. So fans will be surprised to learn that the Queen of Pop - who appeared at a music festival in Miami - hinted at the pain of her divorce from Guy Ritchie in new album MDNA.

Her latest release is already a hit, having broken iTunes pre-record sales. "This album is about a woman who’s been hurt, who's trying to get through it and who is living every day with her own disappointment as well as her success" a friend recently told Grazia. And the lyrics certainly seem to reference the demise of their eight-year marriage. On a track titled in Madonna's inimitable style I Don't Give A, she sings: "I tried to be a good girl, I tried to be your wife, diminished myself, and I swallowed my light."

While Madonna powers on juggling her colossal career with children and a romance with French dancer, Brahim Zaibat, her ex-husband Guy recently welcomed a son with model partner Jacqui Ainsley. And according to friends, the singer is steeling herself for the announcement of their wedding.

While opening up through her art, the music maven continues to be as rebellious and controversial as ever. Criticism over the risqué video for MDNA's second single, Girl Gone Wild was waved off in Madonna's typically irreverent fashion: "I'm supposed to be a girl gone wild in the video! How could you go wild and not grind?" she quipped.
