Britney Spears' fiancé has received a judge's permission to help manage the singer's personal affairs. Jason Trawick received approval from Superior Court judge Reva Goetz to become a co-conservator over the Grammy-winner.

He joins her father Jamie in that role and will have control over several decision-making aspects of her personal life, but not in managing her assets.

The 30-year-old singer requested that Jason join her court conservatorship a few months after the couple became engaged. They appeared in court together earlier this year, but the entertainer did not attend Wednesday's hearing in Los Angeles.

She has been under a court-ordered conservatorship since February 2008, when her father stepped in to take control after she had been admitted to hospital twice and had a series of incidents involving erratic behaviour.

Geraldine Wyle, a lawyer for Jamie Spears, said after the hearing that he was thrilled to have Jason involved. Much of the hearing was closed to the public.

Jason, who has served as Britney's agent, attended the hearing but did not comment after its conclusion.

At the request of lawyers handling the case, the judge did not consider the merits of whether to sell the singer's former home in the Hollywood Hills for more than $4 million. The sale can go forward without court approval.

The judge sealed several records related to the singer's health and settlements of lawsuits.
