After a marathon discussion over the weekend Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have finally come up with an agreement they're both happy with. After a string of meetings, one of which lasted six hours, the couple have reportedly agreed that Suri should live in New York with her mother.

The custody arrangement was a key element of the divorce settlement, which was confirmed on Monday by the Dawson's Creek actress' lawyer. Jonathan Wolfe said: "This case has been settled and the agreement has been signed." Speaking to TMZ, he added: "We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life. "We thank Tom's counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution".The Top Gun star's lawyer, Bert Fields, added: "Tom is really pleased we got there, and so am I."Tom will have generous visitation rights to see his daughter, who will apparently be enrolled in school for the first time in the autumn.Until now she has been home-schooled by private tutors. "They both love their daughter," a source told US publication People. "And Tom thinks she should be with her mother." Exact terms of the settlement – including financial details – will remain private.

Katie's lawyer said: "The agreement is confidential and its terms will not be disclosed. "She filed for divorce under the names 'Anonymous vs Anonymous' – showing her intention of trying to keep details private.A Hollywood source said that 50-year-old Tom had agreed to pay a 'substantial' sum to Katie in property, assets and child support. The couple reportedly signed a pre-nuptial agreement which would have limited the amount the star was obliged to hand over, but sources say he would have included a 'goodwill' payoff in the settlement. But the couple did release a joint statement through their representatives. "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents. "With her personal situation taken care of, Katie can now concentrate on her career. She's started work this week on Molly, a film about a single mother and her daughter.
