Hooked on fun: Russell Brand snapped up for Disney-inspired shoot

August 2, 2012

He often plays up to his bad boy reputation. But Russell Brand became a true villain as he joined the ranks of celebrities who have participated in famed photographer Annie Leibovitz's dazzling Disney Dream Portrait series on Wednesday. Wearing a big grin, the Brit funnyman looked happy and relaxed as he moprhed into Captain Hook for the shoot.

Perhaps it is his new girlfriend, Isabella Brewster, who has put a smile on his face.Russell, who split with his wife of 14 months Katy Perry earlier this year, has been dating the former CAA agent for a few weeks now and the pair have been spotted in LA on several occasions. In the make-believe shoot, the star balanced on the open jaws of a crocodile, clad in the classic Captain Hook costume. Recreating the moment Peter Pan’s nemesis comes face-to-face with a hungry crocodile in the classic Disney film, he waves a sword with one hand while his other sports the trademark hook. Cracking a joke about the shoot, Russell said: "There are similarities between me and Captain Hook in that I am an eaten, educated, piratical buccaneer living on the high seas stealing and robbing and loathing the perpetual innocence and childhood of Pan. Peter Pan! Oh, how I hate him!" He wasn’t the only star to be shot by Annie this week. Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Jason Segel were also immortalised by the photography legend, appearing in another iconic shot 'Hitchhiking Ghosts'. The image originates from Disney’s theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion.

Jason was particularly excited about the honour, saying: "I've had this poster on my wall since I was 15 years old . "I was really honored and excited when I found out we were going to do this – and with the two best dudes of all time! "The Disney Dream portrait campaign started in 2007. Celebrities already captured by Annie have included David Beckham, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Scarlett Johansson.
