People are predicting that Bradley Wiggins will soon be made a knight.But legends of rock the Stone Roses went one better by hailing the Tour de France hero and Olympic gold medallist as royalty on Monday night. The rock group's frontman Ian Brown prompted a huge cheer when he proclaimed the mutton-chopped cyclist the 'king of England' at a secret gig for Team GB champions.

Hepthalete Jessica Ennis' introduction as queen met with a roar of approval too. Looking super stylish in a midnight blue suit, Bradley also met the pop star he styles himself on, Paul Weller.Before this year's historic Tour win, the Modfather sent a good luck message to the titan on two wheels. He said: "It's great he's doing so well and shows that all the years of hard workpay off. Good luck mate."

So Bradley was happy to be able to let his sideburns down with his idol. He said: "People don't know that side of me, but I love my music. It's great to be here. It's been an amazing week and it's great that I can have the chance to come to something as special as this." Guitarists Jimmy Page and Mick Jones were also at the gig. As were Daisy Lowe, Alfie Allen, John Simm, Jaime Winstone and For once, though, the celebrity contingent found themselves in the shade as fans clamoured to get autographs from the athletes.
Rapper Goldie summed up the mood of the evening when he said: "Everyone's just focused on Bradley and Jessica. They deserve."
