After welcoming her ten-month-old daughter Aaradhya with her Bollywood star husband Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai's focus has turned to other young mums and their little ones. The emerald-eyed beauty is throwing her weight behind an initiative to eliminate HIV infections among children in Africa and India by 2015 and keep their mothers alive.
It was announced on Monday that Aishwarya, 38, has been made an ambassador for the United Nations AIDS agency. A day later she joined forces with Christy Turlington at the organisation's Every Woman Every Child dinner. The good friends, who looked thrilled to catch up, have plenty in common. Both spokeswomen for makeup brand L'Oreal, they have been referred to as the most beautiful woman in the world at one point, and can list 'supermodel mum' on their CVs.
Christy also supports the UN as US Delegate to their Commission on the Status of Women. The model mum, who has a four-year-old son with Saving Private Ryan actor Ed Burns, has been involved in humanitarian causes since 2005.Joining the glam pair at the Big Apple dinner, were British model Lily Cole, Will & Grace star Debra Messing and Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
