Halle Berry gets broody as daughter Nahla prays for a little sister

November 2, 2012

She may still be promoting her latest film worldwide, but Halle Berry has also paid attention to a demand closer to home – a baby sister for her daughter Nahla. The Cloud Atlas actress revealed on The Wendy Williams Show that she has been under increasing pressure to listen to her daughter's prayers for another addition to the family. The American star said: "Every night, we do our prayers. We pray to God, so sweet. She says, 'God, please bring me a bunk bed and a baby sister'.

"And I say, 'I can do one of those things, I know for sure. The other one, we've got to keep praying on'. What do you say to her when she wants that and can't understand why God's taken so long?"

Although pensive about extending her family, Halle is glad that she made the decision to wait before becoming a mother. The star gave birth to daughter Nahla Ariel Aubry in March 2008, aged 41. The little girl was the result of her relationship with her ex partner, Canadian model Gabriel Aubry. Now that Halle is happily engaged to French actor Olivier Martinez, the former James Bond beauty is in a perfect position to add to her family.

"I'm a much better mother at 46 – or 41, when I had her – than if I were like 21 or 25," she added. "I mean I was just a little baby just trying to figure it out - trying to figure out who I was, let alone having the responsibility of trying to help another little soul develop and grow. I'm so glad I waited."

As a devoted mum, Halle wants nothing but the best for her child, and is weighing up the best lifestyle choices for her family. Although a world famous A-lister, she is keen to keep her daughter away from the harsh glare of Hollywood's spotlight. She previously discussed moving to her fiancé's French homeland, where stars enjoy stricter privacy laws.

Reflecting on the situation Halle said: "She's just a little kid, and I just want her to be a little kid, and have normality and be like everybody else. As her mum, that's my job - to provide her with that, you know? It's frustrating when you feel like you can't."
