Brad Pitt has revealed that he is designing a furniture line. The Killing Them Softly star has been busy working on a range of pieces with designer Frank Pollaro, according to Architectural Digest magazine. The 49-year-old star is set to unveil about 12 pieces in New York, including a dining table, several side tables, a few club chairs and even a bathtub for two in Statuario Venato marble. Brad, who is engaged to actress Angelina Jolie, has also been working on a cocktail table.
The father-of-six told the magazine his ideas have been in the pipeline for some time, explaining: "I've been doodling ideas for buildings and furniture since the early 1990s, when I first discovered [Charles Rennie] Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright. Actually, I found Wright in college, when looking for a lazy two-point credit to get out of French. It forever changed my life. "However, Brad's fans will have to dig deep if they want to snap up one of the star's offerings, as it seems they will come with a hefty price tag.
Designer Frank said his prices are "typically at the highest end of the custom-furnishings scale, and these will be up there, even north of that". But, he adds, eventually certain pieces may be adapted for larger-scale production, in different materials. "The same chair we charge $45,000 for might sell for a fraction of that," he says.
They started with the bed - "an Art Deco ocean liner of a bed, featuring a lustrous tropical-hardwood frame that extends from its gently curved headboard, along the floor, to a graceful arc that ends in a cantilevered bench capable of seating".Brad is coy about his new hobby and hesitates when asked how he feels about being called a furniture designer, cautioning, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves." For his part, Frank predicts that this is just the beginning. "I think we’ll be doing this for a long time," he says.
Brad recently became the first male to front the legendary Chanel N.5 perfume campaign. He follows in the footsteps of Nicole Kidman, Vanessa Paradis and Audrey Tatou. Explaining the surprising decision, Fragrance president Andrea d’Avack said: "To keep a legend fresh , you always have to change its point of view. We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume. No.5 is our leading fragrance, and we are willing to make the investment to keep it on that level."
