Never-seen-before tasks challenge new line-up on 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!'

November 12, 2012

The new series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! has kicked off with the contestants discussing rats, monster-sized tarantulas - and politics. The new series took a dramatic turn as Helen Flangan, David Haye, Nadine Dorries and the rest of the contestants were split into two camps. Rather than greeting each other in the traditional hotel setting, the celebrities had to battle for their luxurious stay as they were divided into teams - Snake Rock and Croc Creek to race to their camps. Although the lucky winners would soon be rescued from their outback nightmares, the losing team faced hard floors, creepy crawlies and dire food supplies for the first night of their stay. As ex-Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts led team Snake Rock - consisting of MP Nadine Dorries, darts champion Eric Bristow, Made in Chelsea star Hugo Taylor and ex-Dr Who star Colin Baker - boxing champion David Haye took charge of Croc Creek, which included Coronation Street’s Helen Flanagan, Birds of a Feather actress Linda Robson, funnyman Brian Conley and soap star Charlie Brooks.

Despite a rather shaky start which saw soap star Helen tackle her fear of heights with mascara streaming down her face, Team Croc Creek were declared the victorious squad as they became the first team to enter the jungle. As David trounced Hugo in the first Bushtucker trial, the reality show star and his campmates were given basic rations leading Hugo to burst into tears. Hugo said afterwards: "I’m just hungry and tired and feeling a bit over emotional. I didn’t expect to cry this early. It’s hard to rationalise when your body is saying you need to eat, when you need to sleep. It’s just terrible."

As well as declaring the experience as “the weirdest camping holiday I’ve ever been on”, the star also sparked up a political debate with Nadine. Responding to criticism for appearing in the show, the politician said: "In Westminster, politicians really have to crack out of this fusty, old-fashioned impression everybody has. They think everybody lives in landed estates; everybody's out of touch with real people. I think MPs have really got a responsibility given all the bad press we've had to communicate with people on a different level." "That's one of the reasons why I'm here. Sixteen million people watching this show. That's how politics should be."

There was no rest for the MP as she was voted to challenge Helen in the second Bushtucker trial, forebodingly named the Bug Burial. The contestants will be buried alive for ten minutes in the challenge whilst an array of creepy crawlies pay the pair a visit.
