Thrill Bill: Quentin Tarantino's happy reunion with muse Uma Thurman

December 12, 2012

Quentin Tarantino affectionately calls Uma Thurman "my Marlene Dietrich" and played a pivotal role in her career, directing her in Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill and helping cement the blonde's reputation as film's ultimate femme fatale. When the two meet up again at the premiere of Quentin's latest offering Django Unchained, there was plenty of fun to be had. If it weren't for their glitzy surroundings the pair could easily have been catching up over a coffee as they laughed and chatted their way through a photo call.

For her part, Uma seemed to be thoroughly enjoying her night out. The actress gave birth to her baby daughter Luna in July and is steadily increasing her post pregnancy appearances. Little Luna is the first child in common for the Kill Bill star and her financier beau Arpad Busson. She joins elder siblings Maya, 13, and Levon, ten – her mum's children from her marriage to actor Ethan Hawke. Family is very much on Uma's mind right now, but on Tuesday it was all about returning to her acting roots to support her mentor Quentin. The cult director's films always make waves in the industry, and his latest offering stays faithful to a favoured theme of boys – and girls – behaving badly.

This time, Leonardo DiCaprio steps up as Machiavellian plantation owner Calvin Candie, and the actor almost, but only almost, managed to steal the limelight from Uma as he brought his unique brand of star power to proceedings and waiting reporters clamoured to capture a piece of it. Leonardo recently described his alter ego Calvin as "One of, if not the most, despicable, indulgent, radical characters I've ever read in my life." He stars alongside Jamie Foxx who plays the title character Django – a bounty hunter out to free himself and his loved ones from the repression of plantation life.
