Victoria Beckham settles into London life with a touch of shopping in Notting Hill

January 25, 2013

A Transatlantic move is a daunting prospect, but Victoria Beckham has clearly reconnected with the UK after she and David's family recently uprooted from Los Angeles, where they were based for five years. The designer was seen doing a spot of shopping in London's Notting Hill – a famous stomping ground for the stars. Mrs Beckham turned the chilly British weather into a fashion opportunity, with an elegant army detail coat draped over her casual outfit.

High fashion is tightly enmeshed with Victoria's life, influencing both her personal and professional decisions. The brunette and her brood – Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, ten, Cruz, seven, and 17-month-old Harper – have now returned to live in London, making the UK their base. There had been much speculation over the family's decision to relocate to London from LA, with many putting it down to David's next sporting move following his exit from LA Galaxy. However, it seems that the relocation may be more to do with the Beckham matriarch's dedication to her London-based fashion label. She and David have decided that everything is in place and now the time is right to return to home shores. They scoured the capital looking for a potential new home in upmarket areas including Mayfair, Clapham and Holland Park but have opted to rent property for the next 12 months in Kensington rather than buy, until David's next move in his football career is certain.

The fashion designer needed to be closer to her brand's headquarters in the capital's Battersea, according to a source who revealed all to Radar Online. "Victoria couldn't handle managing her lucrative fashion line from Los Angeles any more because it's based in London," they said. Apparently, being "often up in the middle of the night having conference calls with her staff across the Pond" became a bit too much. Last year, the mum-of-four admitted that she was finding juggling her transatlantic responsibilities trying, with the time difference often leaving her exhausted. "I have a lot on my plate," she said. "I'm not going to lie about it, I'm tired. I'm really tired. I'm basically just like any woman who's working and has lots of children – it's tough." She continued: "I'm not getting much sleep at all. Harper's not sleeping that great, and I've been taking Skype business calls throughout the night too because of the collections. I'm up with the baby as all mums are and I wouldn't have it any other way. There's not a team of people doing it for me."

Despite the success of the Victoria Beckham label, family is the driving force behind its founder – and always will be. Back in October, HELLO! exclusively revealed that a move back home could be on the cards for the family, who had been based in Los Angeles since 2007. A source told us at the time: "Victoria feels that her kids are missing out by not having her and David's extended families around them, especially as they get older, and would love for them to be able to spend more time together." The signs that a move was on the cards were always present to those who cared to look. Last year, Victoria took part in the GREAT Campaign, which invited the world to take a fresh look at what Britain has to offer, and spoke of her devotion to country of birth: "I love living in America, I embrace living in America, but I am British, David is British, the kids are British, and we're very, very proud of that."
