When Katy Perry was pictured wearing a ruby ring on her wedding finger after a romantic Valentine's dinner date with John Mayer, it sparked numerous reports that the couple were all set to tie the knot. But friends have now confirmed that the beautiful band is not an engagement ring, but rather a commitment ring that was specially chosen by John for his pop star girlfriend.
The one-of-a-kind band, which features a heart-shaped ruby, was created by Daniel Gibbings, a Santa Monica based jeweller and designer. It reportedly cost the Wide Awake singer £30,000.While he might not have popped the question, John is clearly totally smitten with 28-year-old Katy.
The couple have been linked since last summer, although they didn't make their first red carpet appearance together until December. And now 35-year-old John, who has dated Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson and Taylor Swift in the past, has spoken candidly about his very 'human' romance with Katy. "I don't feel like I'm in a celebrity relationship," he recently explained on Sunday Morning. "I don't feel it for the first time in my life. "I'm not even in a high-profile relationship… I know it's high-profile, but it's hard to explain. It doesn't feel that way to me, and it's great and I'm glad. "I'm saying for me, it feels like it's something very human. "The songwriter also admitted he has matured a lot in recent years, saying, "I wish that I grew up a year every year of my life, and I didn't. "I stopped for a certain period of time, and I was 24 for six years or whatever, and then the log jam cleared and I'm dead on for 35!"And while he has not immediate plans, we could be hearing wedding bells in the not too distant future. "I mean, I'm still the kid from Connecticut," he said. "That's what we do!"
