Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen have ended their relationship, according to reports. The actors met on the set of Woody Allen's Oscar-nominated film, Midnight in Paris. Canadian-born Rachel, 34, and Welsh-born Michael, 44, made their relationship public in October 2010. It is not yet known why the pair parted. Rachel lives in Toronto, Canada, while Michael splits his time between his Wales and LA.
The Notebook actress spoke about overcoming the difficulties of a long-distance relationship in January 2012. "Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart," she said. "We rack up a lot of air miles, but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not." Rachel talked about the strength of their relationship last year.
"Michael and I didn't get together while we were filming Midnight in Paris, which I feel strongly about not doing when I'm working," she said. "We became quite good friends, which I think is a great way to start."
Despite being one of Hollywood's more low-key couples, Michael was never shy in confessing his love for Rachel, describing her as a "genuinely lovely lady, as well as being stunningly beautiful and very talented." But usmagazine.com reported on Wednesday that a source confirmed the couple had called time on their relationship.
The Mean Girls actress previously dated Ryan Gosling, her co-star in the Notebook. They got together in 2005 and but called off their brief engagement in 2007. Twilight actor Michael has a 14-year-old daughter, Lily, from his relationship with actress Kate Beckinsale.
