New mum Shakira won't be showing a softer side when she begins her role as judge on The Voice in the US. "Never underestimate this 5'3" Colombian girl," the Hips Don't Lie singer said in a clip of the singing competition.
Shakira, who gave birth to her and footballer Gerard Pique's baby boy on 22 January, joins Usher and existing coaches Blake Shelton and Maroon 5's Adam Levine for the programme's fourth series. The new duo have replaced previous judges Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green on the hunt for fresh talent. The two-time Grammy winner will be on hand to help the hopeful singers. "I've come here to be a mentor to people who have dreams like I once I had," she said to one contestant. "You can take the world by storm and I want to help you with that because I did it, I already did it." There's lots of excitement surrounding the global superstar's latest venture with screaming fans filling the studios to marvel at their favourite singer at work.
Shakira gave birth to Milan Pique Mubarak in January. The first glimpse the world had of the little one was when they posted a Twitter picture of him with his FC Barcelona star dad, Gerard Pique, on UNICEF’s website. During her pregnancy the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador posed for a portrait with her beau, showing off her impressive baby bump. As well as sharing their intimate moments with the charity, the couple compiled a baby shower list inviting fans to purchase a gift for a child suffering in the developing world. "To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations," the couple said. "Thank you for sharing this unforgettable moment with us." The new parents have been dating for two years and are clearly smitten. "This man is the best thing that could have ever happened in my life," Shakira said. "And now the baby!" The Waka Waka singer was previously in a relationship with Antonio de La Rua, the son of former Argentinian President Fernando de la Rua, for more than a decade. They split in 2010.
