'Loved it!': Geri Halliwell gives green light to first tube journey in 17 years

March 14, 2013

The last time Geri Halliwell rode the London Underground was in 1996, neatly coinciding with her meteoric rise to fame as a Spice Girl. But on Wednesday Geri, 40, dusted off her pass and became reacquainted with the benefits of public transport. The mum-of-one also documented her odyssey on Twitter – and seemed suitably impressed.

Her first comment, a tentative "not so bad!!", soon gave way to glowing reviews, with Geri telling fans: "Loved it!! I'm a Londoner! I'm liberated!!. "Forgive me for being a brat:-after 17 years & yesterday's 2 hrs of traffic-lets save time & money-the tube!".She even offered up her own tongue-in-cheek Tube tips saying: "Doors stops at platform entrance, or below sign, more seats at end carriage. Oh & it's not smelly, just saying". Geri, who is mum to Bluebell Madonna, six, has recently been spending quality time with bandmates Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown Melanie Chisholm and Victoria Beckham. The ladies have been promoting Viva Forever, a musical based on the Spice Girls' glittering back catalogue.

Geri also lent her support to charity Children In Need last year, taking part in POP Goes the Musical. The initiative saw stars joining the cast of well-known musicals, and surprising the theatre's audience members. Crowds were thrilled when Geri took to the stage, in a bowler hat and umbrella, to perform Singin' in the Rain with the show's leading man Adam Cooper.
