Proud Michael Douglas reveals Catherine Zeta-Jones is heading home after bipolar treatment

Michael Douglas might be making the most of the red carpet experience in Cannes, but he has a good incentive to get back home - his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones will be there waiting for him. On Tuesday, the actress will have completed her ongoing treatment for Bipolar II disorder. "She comes home tomorrow," Michael told People on Monday in Cannes, where he is promoting his new HBO film on Liberace, Behind the Candelabra. "She's doing a really good job of getting balanced. I'm proud of her."

The Welsh star, 43, entered treatment for the second time in April, just as her husband's portrayal of Liberace was starting to generate buzz — Matt Damon stars alongside Michael as Scott Thorson. Catherine, for one, is a big fan. "She loves it," Michael, 68, revealed. "It cracks her up. She thinks it's a great movie. "Playing the flamboyant musician is quite a departure for the Wall Street star, who by his own admission doesn't "get to play a lot of nice guys". It's a role he was thrilled to take on — particularly after his own battle with throat cancer. "You've got to put it into perspective… coming off the cancer, I was just happy to be alive, and then someone hands me one of the best scripts I've ever read," he told Extra TV.

"Steven Soderbergh tells me he's going to direct, Jerry Weintraub is going to produce, Matt Damon is going to be my co-star — and I get to play Liberace! I was like, 'Aw baby, this is too good to be true!' I was ready for some good luck. "Michael is now confident that will continue to enjoy good health for some time to come, and is looking forward to the future with Catherine and their two children, Dylan, 12, and Carys, nine. "I feel great. I'm cancer-free, and with my particular type of cancer, if you are free after two years, it doesn't usually come back," he said.
