Kim Kardashian may have welcomed her baby girl about a month early, but the reality TV star had a natural birth, despite being "admitted with medical complications". "Kim was admitted with medical complications and her doctor made the decision that her baby needed to be delivered," a source told People. "Kim had a natural birth." "If Kim would have had very serious complications, her doctor would have decided to do an emergency Caesarean instead." Earlier on in the pregnancy, Kim was advised that a Caesarean may be likely as the baby was large and sitting in a way that applied pressure.
Her rapper boyfriend Kanye West, however, was reportedly wary of a c-section as he did not want to pose any more unnecessary risk to his girlfriend and baby. Kanye was by Kim's side as she checked in to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning, and witnessed the natural birth. He is determined his little girl won't grow up in the spotlight, and Kim is equally "very protective" of her daughter, the source said.
The couple are keeping mum about the baby's name, and have not revealed whether she has in fact been given a name. But a source told People the couple were close to making a decision. The baby's name will most likely begin with a "K" to match the rest of the Kardashian clan.
"Kai Georgia Donda West" has been shortlisted as the top pick, paying tribute to both of the couple's parents. Kim's late dad was called Robert George Kardashian, while Donda refers to the rapper's late mother. Earlier on in the pregnancy, other rumoured choices included Karys, Kara, Kleo, and Kimana. Kanye seems to be taking the lead in deciding what to call their daughter. "He thinks a name is far more important than Kim does," a source told Naughty But Nice Rob. "Yes, Kim wants the perfect name that is unusual and fun, but she thinks it's just a name, whereas Kayne sees a name as a much more than a name. He sees it as a brand."
The couple were rumoured to take out a copyright at the US Patent and Trademark Office on the chosen name, much like Beyoncé and Jay-Z who applied to trademark "Blue Ivy Carter" for their daughter. Given the timing of the birth, Kim and Kanye's baby is being monitored in an incubator as a precaution and both mother and baby are said to be doing well. She is said to have dark hair and look very much like her mother. The baby weighed in at less than five pounds.
