Nigella Lawson moved into a new home on Monday, just days after her husband Charles Saatchi made a surprising statement that he was filing for divorce.Having stayed in a flat since she left the £12million house in Chelsea that she had shared with her multimillionaire husband, Nigella, 53, has now moved to a bigger, perhaps more permanent, residence.The celebrity chef's belongings – including a king-size mattress and kitchen gadgets such as a coffee maker and toaster – were delivered to the stylish house from the weekend onwards.
The luxury four-bedroom, two-bathroom house dates from the early 19th century and is worth around £4million.Although a scale down from her family home, the Nigellisima author and her two children Cosima, 19, and Bruno, 17, from her previous marriage to journalist John Diamond, will still enjoy the best of creature comforts.Her new home boasts a cinema, a wine cellar and a state-of-the-art kitchen where she can continue to rustle up the culinary creations she is so renowned for.Nigella's estrangement from her art collector husband of nine years comes after shocking pictures emerged of Charles with his hands around his wife's neck at Scott's restaurant in Mayfair. The celebrity chef looked visibly upset in the photographs.
In an open statement confirming he was to divorce Nigella, Charles, 70, expressed his 'disappointment' at her for not defending his reputation following the incident. "I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way," said the advertising agency tycoon to The Mail on Sunday.The day after the photographs were released, Charles voluntarily attended Charing Cross police station where he agreed to accept a caution for assault.
