August 2, 2013

Shakira's ex-boyfriend Antonio de la Rúa has lost his case to receive $100million he claims he is owed by the singer.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Abraham Khan issued his ruling on Thursday that Antonio would not be paid anything, despite his claim that he was instrumental in Shakira's rise to superstardom and helped her crossover from the Latin music market.

Antonio, who is an Argentinian lawyer, had been overseeing Shakira's career interests until the singer abruptly ended their business partnership in October 2011, ten months after the couple went their separate ways.

Antonio sued the 36-year-old in April 2013 claiming in his lawsuit that she had not paid him in accordance with their business contracts since 2010.The Colombian star's legal team fought Antonio's claims saying that the case should be filed in her native country, or in the Bahamas, where Shakira currently claims residency.

Shakira's attorneys were able to dismiss the lawsuit in California because one of the pair's disputed agreements is governed by Colombian law.Shakira and Antonio started dating in 2000, a year before her hit single Whenever Wherever was released. On 10 January 2011, the singer announced on her website that she and Antonio has called time on their 11 year relationship in August 2010.

The Waka Waka singer said the break-up was the result of "a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship" and that the couple would "view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives. "Shakira is now happily settled with Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué and the pair welcomed their son, Milan, on 22 January 2013.
