Kanye West will be making his first public performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards since the birth of his daughter North West in June.
It is speculated that his girlfriend and mother of his child, Kim Kardashian, may join the Yeezus rapper on the night to show her support.Kanye is the second act to be announced and will perform his new single Black Skinhead from his latest studio album. As the first confirmed act, Lady Gaga will also be debuting her single Applause.
Kanye's appearance at the event scheduled for the 25 August will mark the seventh time he has sung at the awards ceremony, same with legendary singer Madonna who tops the most VMA performances.
The first-time father's most famous appearance was, on the contrary, not when he rapped but when he stormed on stage and interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, declaring his close friend Beyoncé deserved the win.
"Thank you so much," began Taylor. "I always dreamed about what it would be like to maybe win one of these someday, but I never actually thought it would have happened."
Before the country singer could continue, Kanye tore onto stage, saying, "Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time.
"This is not the first time Kanye has used the stage to make an announcement. He delighted fans at a concert last year when he revealed Kim was pregnant, and asked his fans to congratulate her. "Stop the music for a second.
Stop the music," said Kanye. "Can we make some noise for my baby mama right quick?"
Before the release of his single Black Skinhead, clips of Kanye's video were illegally leaked online which caused the rapper to launch into a Twitter rant.
"Me and Nick Knight have been working on this video for 5 months and for creatives it's heartbreaking when something like this happens," tweeted the rapper, referring to his collaboration with the British fashion photographer.
Kanye then lashed out at the culprit with a string of tweets and an expletive, culminating in, "And to who ever leaked the video… **** YOU!"
