The five-piece band were all colour co-ordinated for their performance at the annual awards show, wearing black and white suits.

They tweeted for the second time ever after they stole the show at the VMAs – having opened an account on the microblogging site just the day before and already gaining almost 200k followers. "What a night! Thanks for all the support everyone. We love you so! #NSYNC" wrote the boyband, who had a hugely successful career spanning almost a decade from the mid 1990s.

Their highly-anticipated show was topped off when Justin, who has since become a massive star as a solo artist, scooped the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Jimmy Fallon, who hosted the show, praised the pop star.

He quickly remembered his former band members in his moment of glory: "Half of the moonmen I've ever won, I won with those four guys right there. "So above all else, I'm going to share this - we can keep it at my house - but I'm going to share this award with them."

Justin's reaction was incredibly humble. "I don't deserve the award, but I'm not going to give it back. I'm taking this home," said the 32-year-old.

"In the two decades he's been entertaining us, he has become a legend. I'm talking hit after hit after hit after hit," said the comedian.
