Father and daughter were also joined at the ceremony by Bernie’s sister Linda, and the trio proudly posed with the award following the event, held in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer at London’s Cadogan Hall.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer was Bernie's chosen charity, and in order to help continue the life-saving research she was so passionate about, the charity recently set up a tribute fund in her name." It is incredibly hard for myself and Erin these days, however if Bernie's wonderful spirit can be used to help in the future, that would bring some comfort to us," heartbroken Steve said of the tribute fund.

"Bernie believed that Breakthrough Breast Cancer's research was crucial; and it's reassuring to think she is still in people's thoughts, and making a difference to people's experiences with this terrible disease."

Bernie's devoted husband of 17 years recently spoke for the first time since her death, admitting he will never get over his loss. "I miss her every minute of every day and I know I'll never get over it, she was the love of my life," Steve told the Sunday Mirror. "I know I was the luckiest man in the world to have loved and been loved by her. She gave us our beautiful daughter, who has been my strength through all of those dark days."

Bernie's funeral was held in Blackpool on 17 July, with 700 friends and family filling the Grand Theatre. With heart wrenching poise and bravery, Erin read Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep by Mary Elizabeth Fry.
