Cate Blanchett took her son Roman along to the Critic’s Choice Awards ceremony in Santa Monica, California, on Thursday.

So the little leading man would have been more delighted than anyone when his mum scooped the Best Actress award for her role in Blue Jasmine.

When she was announced the winner, the Australian actress gave her nine-year-old – one of three sons – a huge hug which he happily returned before joining in with the rest of the hall and clapping excitedly.

When she took to the stage, dressed in a stunning dark green floor-length Lanvin gown, Cate accepted the award and thanked Blue Jasmine director Woody Allen, 'for everything he's done.'She went on to say: 'Not only for cinema but for the roles he's created for women. I'm just the lucky girl he happened to call for this.'
