Ten facts about the Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards show is one of the biggest nights in the musical calender. The evening brings together the biggest names in music to perform and be honoured for their contribution to the industry. Ahead of Sunday night's show HELLO! Online have put together 10 facts about the prestigious awards show...

1. The first Grammy Awards were presented on 4 May 1959. The Record of The Year was Volare by Domenico Modugno.

2. The Grammys is the second most-watched award show after the Oscars and one of the "most fun nights out" according to Taylor Swift.

3.Stevie Wonder holds the record for most Grammys won by a solo artist, with 28 Grammys and a Lifetime Achievement award.

4. Sinead O'Connor is the only artist to refuse a Grammy - for Best Alternative Music Performance for the album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990).

5. Elmo the Muppet has won three Grammys, including one for 1998's Elmopalooza! (Best Music Album for Children).

6. Kanye West has won 21 Grammys, more than The Beatles, Barbra Streisand and James Taylor combined.

7. Although the Grammys are to celebrate music, it is also a night for the stars to show off their style, so many memorable dresses and styles are debuted on the red carpet.

8. Quincy Jones is the most nominated artist of all time with 79 nominations. Eminem is fourth with 47, and Jay-Z and Beyoncé are tied for fifth place with 42 nominations each.

9. At 14 years old, LeAnn Rimes was the youngest ever person to receive a Grammy and George Burns was the oldest at 94.

10. This year there will be performances from Jay Z, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Lorde and many other artists.
