Julia Roberts stars in loneliness campaign — as half-sister's death certificate is released

February 19, 2014

As she battles to overcome tragedy in her own personal life, Julia Roberts has appeared in a new video encouraging people to reach out to others.

The Oscar-nominated actress stars alongside a host of famous faces — including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston and Tom Hanks — in Oprah Winfrey's new video campaign to combat Loneliness, titled Just Say Hello.

It was screened on the same day that the death certificate for her half-sister Nancy Motes, 37 — whose body was found on 9 February — was released.

Not much was learned from the document; the cause of Nancy's death was 'deferred'. It confirmed that she lived in Santa Monica, and her occupation was listed as 'dog trainer'.

In the new Oprah video, Julia, looking gorgeous in a black dress, is seen saying 'Hi babe' as she looks to the camera.

A press release for the campaign says, "To combat loneliness and encourage more face-to-face interaction, O, The Oprah Magazine has partnered with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Skype to launch the Just Say Hello campaign, encouraging people everywhere to reach out and connect with others by Just Saying Hello.

"It's easy. It's free. And it can change someone's life."

As well as a message from Dr. Gupta as to why the lonely need help, the video features a number of celebrities saying quick hellos, including Ellen DeGeneres, Rita Wilson and John Legend and Garth Brooks.
