Lily Allen's NME award didn't last long in one piece, as the Best Solo Artist winner was seen leaving the after-party with one piece of the trophy in one hand, and the rest in the other. Earlier in the evening, Lily beat the likes of David Bowie, Sir Paul McCartney and Kanye West to scoop the gong at the NME Awards 2014. Accepting the award, the star said: "This is kind of dumb because David Bowie was in the same category, and Jake Bugg. So this goes to you guys really, not me. Thank you!"

The Hard Out Here singer was eye-catching in a Sixties-style shift dress as she arrived for the awards ceremony, which was held at London's 02 Brixton Academy. Lily had opted for a colourful number featuring orange, black and white panels to show off her slim figure. A pair of white high heels, a black Louis Vuitton handbag and a furry blue and green coat completed the eccentric outfit, while her jet black locks were scraped up into a stylish top knot.

Lily, 28, also took to the stage to present Blondie with the Godlike Genius award in recognition of a legendary career. Other winners of the night included The Arctic Monkeys, who picked up prizes for Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album for AM and Best Fan Community. Frontman Alex Turner was also named Hero of the Year over the likes of David Bowie, Russell Brand, Pussy Riot, Lou Reed and Este Haim.

One Direction singer Harry Styles didn't miss out, either. The 19-year-old heartthrob was awarded the title of Villain of the Year for the second year running, beating Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, David Cameron and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Paul McCartney collected the special, one-off honour of NME's Songwriter's Songwriter, while Damon Albarn picked up the brand new NME Award For Innovation.
