Susanna Reid has spoke for the first time about her split from long-term partner Dominic Cotton. The couple, who have three children together, separated last month after 16 years.
"I'm still talking to Dom. He is one of my best friends in the world," Susanne told the Mirror. "It's been tough but we are sorting it out. He is a great dad to the kids. "The Strictly Come Dancing star, 43, was speaking at the Television and Radio Industries Club awards, where she was crowned Newsreader of the Year.
Susanna says that she and her former long-term partner Dominic Cotton remain good friends
Backstage at the Grosvenor Hotel, she opened up about the end of her relationship with 47-year-old Dominic, with who she has three sons, Sam, 11, Finn, nine and eight-year-old Jack. "We all go through different challenges in our life," she said. "And this has been a challenging time. But it's lovely to have a good time today. "I have friends here, I've got Strictly, BBC Breakfast. It's a good day."
Susanna recently announced she was leaving BBC Breakfast for ITV show Good Morning Britain
Susanne recently announced she was leaving the BBC to front ITV's new morning show, Good Morning Britain.
Commenting on the switch, she added, "I'm sad to be leaving BBC Breakfast, it's been fantastic. "But I'm so excited because as a presenter and a news journalist to be building a new profile from another great team is a really exciting opportunity for me. It is something I really couldn't turn down.
"News of Susanna and Dominic's split first emerged in February when his profile appeared on a dating website. When asked whether they had separated, as indicated on his match.com post, Dominic replied, "I don't think it would be appropriate for me to discuss this."
It has been reported that Susanna's busy work schedule and Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals played a part in the seperation
There was speculation that Susanna's heavy workload — juggling training and filming for Strictly Come Dancing with her job as a BBC Breakfast presenter — had contributed to the decision.
Dominic admitted in December that Susanna's Strictly commitments had taken their toll. "Her schedule has been really full-on," he said. "I'm looking forward to having my partner back. It's been tough but we knew it would be. We knew it would be an enormous commitment but we discussed it and I was so happy to back her to do it."
