The Saturdays band together for daffodil appeal

March 24, 2014

The Saturdays stars Una Foden, Rochelle Humes and Frankie Sandford have got behind Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal this March by wearing their daffodils and declaring "I'm wearing mine" in a short film.

The singers join a variety of the nation's favourite faces from the silver screen in their efforts, such as  EastEnders' actress Charlie Brooks, TOWIE star-turned-fashion designer Lydia Bright, TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and Birds of a Feather actress Linda Robson.

Other stars to get behind the Great Daffodil Appeal, which encourages everyone to make a donation and wear a daffodil pin during March, include American hit series The Wire's Dominic West, impressionist John Culshaw and Liverpool-born actress Alison Steadman.

The short film shows the TV personalities complete with their pretty yellow daffodil pin displayed on the lapel of their jacket as they declare: "I'm wearing mine" in support of Marie Curie's biggest annual fundraising appeal.

The Saturdays stars have long been supporters of the cause. In 2011 the girl band made a surprise visit to London's Westfield shopping centre where they raised £1,000.

Rochelle said at the time: "We've really enjoyed doing our bit and collecting for Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal at Westfield London. We've raised £1000 in just 40 minutes and made sure every Saturday shopper is walking around with their daffodil on.

"We've supported Marie Curie Cancer Care ever since we heard one of their Nurses talk about the amazing work they do, caring for terminally ill people who want to be looked after at home. We just had to get involved in their Great Daffodil Appeal and what better place to do it than Westfield London."

All the funds raised from the appeal help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes and in the charity's nine hospices. By using the slogan "I'm wearing mine", Britain’s TV personalities are encouraging the nation to support the appeal and wear their daffodils throughout March too.
