Paul Walker's death caused by speed - not mechanical failure

March 26, 2014

A new police report has concluded that the speed of the car carrying Paul Walker and his friend Roger Rodas caused the fatal crash that claimed their lives.

The Porsche was travelling at approximately 90mph when it lost control on a suburban street and crashed in November last year.

A new report has revealed that excessive speed caused Paul's fatal car crash

Investigators have confirmed that unsafe driving, and not mechanical problems, caused the accident.

The California Highway Patrol's Accident Investigation Team conducted a full examination on the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, including its history, safety recalls and repair reports.

The LA Sheriff's Department also consulted with experts from Porsche as part of their investigation.

Both Paul and his driving companion Roger Rodas lost their lives

Based on post-crash calculations, specialists determined that Roger was driving between 81mph and 94mph before it crashed into a light pole which had a speed limit sign on 45mph, and burst into flames.

There is evidence that the two friends were wearing seat belts and that the air bags deployed for both driver and passenger. Toxicology tests confirmed neither had used any alcohol or drugs.

Paul and Roger had taken what was supposed to be a quick ride from a fund-raising benefit, Reach Out Worldwide — a charity Paul, 40, had set up that gives first-response aid to victims of natural disasters.

The crash took place near the event, and friends of the two men were along the first on the scene.

Paul was in the middle of filming Fast & Furious 7 at the time of his death. Production was shut down following the accident, and it was only recently that the cast and crew returned to finish the 2015 release.

"This is the only movie I ever worked on where we are all real close even after the movie is over," actor Tyrese Gibson told TooFab. "It wasn't just losing a co-star, he was family for real. That's why it took so long to recover."
