Zac Efron and bodyguard attacked in LA

Zac Efron was attacked in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The 17 Again actor and his bodyguard ended up fighting with a group of local residents while waiting for a tow truck to pick them up after they ran out of petrol.

While waiting for the truck to arrive, Zac threw a bottle out of his car window, which smashed, aggravating residents who then confronted him and his bodyguard.

The situation escalated and two men reportedly attacked Zac's bodyguard before the 26-year-old got out of the car to help and was then hit in the face.

"It was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life," Zac told TMZ.

Police then arrived on the scene and the tension was diffused. None of the participants were arrested as police viewed the incident as "mutual combat".

Despite being hit, Zac appeared to have recovered well and showed no signs of bruising in a photo uploaded by ESPN Creative Works.

Zac's injury comes four months after the Parkland star broke his jaw after slipping over at his LA home.

An insider revealed to People that Zac, who slipped in a puddle, had to have his jaw wired shut as a result of his fall, and received stitches.The California-born star also had to delay plans to promote his new film, That Awkward Moment.

In September, it was revealed that Zac had completed a stint in rehab earlier in 2013. Sources said that after ascending to A-list status following the success of the second High School Musical film, he fell in with the wrong crowd.

Later in September, Zac broke his silence for the first time since news of his attempt to get help became public knowledge.

Posting an Instagram picture of himself at the Machu Picchu mouton ruins in Peru, he wrote in the caption, "Hey guys! Just returned from an incredible trip to Peru with my dad and wanted to thank you all for your support these past few weeks… means the world to me. Love you guys — Z."
