Christie Brinkley has tweeted her thanks to those who supported her after daughter Alexa Ray Joel collapsed at the weekend.

Alexa, 28, was performing at the Cafe Carlyle on Saturday evening — the final performance in a two-week run — when she collapsed and was taken to the emergency room at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Alexa, the daughter of model Christie and singer Billy Joel, is now recovering after her health scare. She was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, a condition which causes a sudden stop in blood pressure and heart rate, and a reduced flow of blood to the brain. Vasovagal syncope does not require any treatment.

"I just want to thank those who were there, who expressed their sweet concern and kind support. I am very grateful," Christie, 60, wrote following the incident.

In a statement, Alexa assured fans she is doing well. "I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support me," she said. "I was excited and determined to fulfill my final performance and I really wanted to end my run with a bang, but this was not what I had in mind and hope I have the opportunity to make it up to the wonderful audience very soon. Thanks for all the concern."

Alexa's rep added that the singer hadn't been feeling well before the performance. "Ms. Joel was taken ill earlier in the afternoon and announced from stage that she pulled out her back and neck, but wanted to show to go on."
