The late adventurer's daughter shared this moving snap on her Facebook account.

Ayesha – Mark's daughter with former actress Clio Goldsmith - was reportedly in Italy at the time of her father's death, but is now back in London to be with her family.

Mark died last Wednesday at the age of 62 in New York. The conservationist and adventurer had been enjoying the success of a fundraising auction for his charity Elephant Family when he fell and suffered a fatal head injury.

Since his untimely passing, tributes have been pouring in. Tom Parker Bowles – Camilla's son – thanked those who had spoken highly of his uncle, writing:

After the tragedy last week Tom travelled to New York with Mark's other nephew Ben Elliot to make arrangements to bring his body home.

Ben, who is a philanthropist, led the tributes last week with a photo of his uncle with Ben's son perched on his shoulders.

The caption accompanying the snap read: "RIP my hero and uncle Mark Shand. We loved him so much. What a life. Here he is with his great nephew, my son."

The Duchess of Cornwall's younger brother was described as "a man of extraordinary vitality, a tireless campaigner and conservationist" by a Clarence House spokesperson.

Mark was often to be found holding court at one of his parties, dazzling guests with his aristocratic good looks and stories of his globetrotting travels in equal measure.

But, like Prince Charles, his interests encompassed Hinduism, Indian culture and conservation. He was also a respected travel writer and was passionate about saving Asian elephants from extinction.
