Kylie Minogue defends Logie Awards performance: 'Yes, I was singing live'

Kylie Minogue has hit back at reports she lip-synched through her much-hyped appearance at the Logie Awards.

On Monday, the pop princess, 45, took to Twitter to respond to criticism that she didn't sing live during Sunday's ceremony.

Replying to a message of support from a fan, she wrote, "@MarkLoSurdo94 yes, we did something different and YES, I was singing live."

Her management team also issued a statement following the rendition of I Was Gonna Cancel, stating categorically that "the performance was live".

"Kylie has backing vocal fillers during chorus and the two backing vocalists to the side of stage," they said.

Kylie last attended the Logie awards 25 years ago, and, as such, her appearance was highly-anticipated. But some of her fans were less than impressed on the night - particularly since it appeared her microphone was switched off when she tried to thank the crowd afterwards.

"You're so much better than that," fan Raelene Harbison wrote on Twitter, while another supporter, David Peters, wrote, "I like Kylie too but I agree… I expect more than a huge star than a mime."

A Channel Nine spokesperson has supported the star and described her performance as "a highlight of the event this year".

"Kylie's live performance of her new single was a great moment in the room and on the broadcast," the network's representative said.

"We were privileged to have her with us and have the world premiere of her new release."
