David Beckham brought an area of Edinburgh to a standstill this week as he filmed a whisky advert inside a local pub. As word spread that the handsome star was in the city, crowds gathered outside the 99 Hanover Street bar hoping to catch a glimpse of David while he shot a video for the launch of the new Haig Club Scotch whisky.
Security guards stood at the entrance of the bar, and the windows had been blacked out to ensure filming was undisturbed. But eventually excited locals were rewarded with a glimpse of the man himself as he popped out to say hello to his fans.David, 39, is thought to have landed in Edinburgh on a private plane, and stayed at the Balmoral Hotel.Lauren Williamson, 23, was among those who headed to Hanover Street hoping to see the football star.
"We got a call from one of our friends and we thought it would be good fun," she said. "It's a glorious day and we thought it would be a chance to see a celeb. I think it's hard not to like Beckham. I'm not a big fan of football, but definitely a big fan of him. He just seems so down to earth. "A spokesperson for drinks company Diagio confirmed, "David is in Scotland for business on Haig Club, a single grain Scotch whisky to be launched later this year. "While David is busy filming in Scotland, his wife Victoria Beckham is busy promoting her new accessories collection overseas. This week she spent time with her fans in Singapore and Jakarta, Indonesia, as she launched her new collaboration with On Pedder boutique.
