Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin proved yet again that they are "closer than ever" following their split when they partied together at a book launch in LA this week.

The former couple, who have remained close friends since the breakdown of their ten-year marriage, mingled and posed for photographs with fellow guests — although notably not together.

Given the relaxed, garden party-style of Vicky Vlachonis' The Body Doesn't Lie launch, Gwyneth opted for black shorts, sandals and a chic white sleeveless blazer while Chris wore a blue T-shirt and trousers.

Gwyneth let her hair down at the event and was seen laughing and joking with her celebrity friends including Cameron Diaz, designer Jennifer Meyer, Tobey Maguire and 50 Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson. Also present at Vicky's book launch were Nicole Richie and her brother-in-law Benji Madden.

Nicole, who has been married to Benji's brother Joel Madden since 2010, sported a colourful patterned maxi dress that matched her vibrant purple hair.

Chris and Gwyneth's appearance at the party comes amid reports that the pair still live together.According to court documents filed by Gwyneth on Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court concerning an alleged stalker, the 41-year-old claimed that she and Chris shared the same house.

The pair were pictured at the house on Sunday and they celebrated Mother's Day with their two children Apple, nine, and Moses, seven.

The party also coincided with Coldplay frontman Chris' denial that he is dating model and TV presenter Alexa Chung.

Gwyneth Paltrow calls for an end to 'mommy wars' and clarifies 'out-of-context' quote about working mums

Rumours that the pair were an item began circulating after they were seen enjoying a drink together in New York although this week a representative for the musician told the Metro newspaper: "They are definitely not dating".
