Angelina Jolie: Movie star mums shouldn't complain about raising children

She's a hard-working mum-of-six, but you won't hear Angelina Jolie complaining.

The actress appreciates that she is able to provide for her children with partner Brad Pitt, while others who aren't in the entertainment industry may not be so lucky.

"I'm not a single mum with two jobs trying to get by every day," the actress told New York Daily News. "I have much more support than most people, most women in this world." And I have the financial means to have a home and health care and food.

"My kids, they're here upstairs," she added, pointing to the ceiling of the hotel conference room where she was speaking to reporters.

Angelina added that she has a flexible schedule at this stage of her career. If she turns down one job, Angelina is lucky enough to get plenty more offers of work later down the line.

"When I feel like I'm doing too much, I do less, if I can. And that's why I'm in a rare position where I don't have to do job after job. I can take time when my family needs it.

"She added, "I actually feel that women in my position, when we have all at our disposal to help us, shouldn't complain. Consider all the people who really struggle and don't have the financial means, don't have the support, and many people are single raising kids. That's hard."

Angelina's comments come just a few weeks after Gwyneth Paltrow made a contradictory statement about how hard it is to raise children while maintaining a film career.

"I think it's different when you have an office job because it's routine, and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening," she said in an interview with E! Online.

"When you're shooting a movie, they're like, 'We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,' and then you work 14 hours a day, and that part of it is very difficult."

Gwyneth added, "I think to have a regular job and be a mum is not as, of course there are challenges, but it's not like being on set."

The mum-of-two faced a backlash after her comments were made, and later tried to clarify them in a post on her Goop blog.

"Film work takes one away from home and requires 12-14 hours a day, making it difficult to be the one to make the kids their lunch, drive them to school and put them to bed," she said.

"This somehow was taken to mean I had said a 9-5 is easier, and a lot of heat was thrown my way, especially by other working mothers who somehow used my out-of-context quote as an opportunity to express feelings (perhaps projected) on the subject."
