Angelina Jolie and Daniel Day-Lewis lead the Queen's birthday honours list

Angelina Jolie, Daniel Day-Lewis and Stephen Sutton lead the Queen's Birthday Honours list this year, with Damian Lewis, Dame Maggie Smith and John Barrowman also being recognised for their work.Hollywood star Angelina, who co-chaired the End Sexual Violence in Conflict global summit with Foreign Secretary William Hague in London on Thursday, has been made an honourary Dame for her contribution to fighting sexual violence.

The 39-year-old said the award meant a lot to her: "To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to.

"Working on the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself," she added.

"I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine."

London-born Daniel Day-Lewis, who was the first man to win three best actor Oscars, has received a knighthood."

I'm entirely amazed and utterly delighted in equal measure," he said of the honour.

Damian Lewis has received an OBE

Dame Maggie Smith has been elevated to a Companion of Honour, while entertainer John Barrowman has been given an MBE and Homeland actor Damian Lewis receives an OBE.

"I was very surprised but very happy to accept," said the 43-year-old actor. "I decided to do the very un-British thing of accepting the compliment.

"I don't think you ever stop trying to impress your parents," he added. "I hope they will be proud and enjoy being there with me to celebrate the honour."

Stephen Sutton has been honoured with a posthumous MBE

 Teenage cancer victim Stephen Sutton, who has raised millions for charity, has been awarded a posthumous MBE.

Stephen, who was told about his award before his death last month, said it was "awesome" to receive the honour.The 19-year-old's mother Jane added that she was "truly delighted and immensely proud" that her son would be given an MBE.Other stars being recognised for their work include author Hilary Mantel, broadcaster Cerys Matthews, Beatles biographer Hunter Davies  and actres Phyllida Law– who is mother to actresses Sophie and Emma Thompson.
