Tom Cruise has raised the bar on the Ice Bucket Challenge by having not only one bucket thrown over him, but eight. The Mission: Impossible 5 star was joined by his director Chris McQuarrie to complete the ordeal on behalf of their cast and crew who were unavailable on the day and "lucky" enough to avoid it. Nominated by Hugh Jackman, Tom and Chris appeared in a video in which they said they would "take one for the team" and raise money for the cause, which aims to find a cure for the neurodegenerative illness ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

"Okay," says Tom as he and Chris take their seats. "Hit it." The pair are then doused with bucket after bucket of cold water and halfway through Tom, 52, pleads, "How much more?" "There's no end to it," Chris is heard saying as he tries to wipe his soaking hair out of his eyes.

Tom and Chris' impressive performance was documented on a YouTube video, which the Hollywood star posted on Twitter with the caption "Mission accomplished."

Hugh himself, who was nominated by Russell Crowe, equally wowed in his efforts as he did the challenge on the set of Pan with his young co-stars Rooney Mara, Garrett Hedlund and Levi Miller – who play Tiger Lily, Hook and Peter Pan respectively in the 2015 film.
