Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon remain quiet as split rumours swirl

August 21, 2014

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's marriage has been rumoured to be on the rocks for some time – but the couple are keeping quiet on recent reports that their marriage is in trouble. The couple are well known for their numerous public declarations of love, but in the past few months have been noticeably quiet on social media; Nick hasn’t tweeted anything about his wife since November, while Mariah last shared a family portrait to mark Father's Day in June.

Mariah and Nick married in April 2008 after a whirlwind romance, and have two children together, three-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan. But numerous sources are claiming that there is trouble in paradise.

"They have been living apart for a while," an insider told E! News. "This is not all of a sudden. There have been issues between them for a while. They are not getting along.

"She wants to end it and it has been in the works for month, which is why her house in the Bahamas and the house in Bel Air are on the market."

The couple are also currently having renovation work carried out on their $10million Tribeca home – and it has been claimed they are using that time for a trial separation.

Another source told US Weekly, "They're using the construction as a cover", adding, "Mariah has had several closed door meetings with divorce lawyers. But Nick's being more passive.

He's less inclined to pull the trigger, perhaps because of the kids…"Nick's sensible and realises that the twins would have a more stable existence if Mariah has full custody. But he wants generous visitation rights."

While the couple are keeping quiet about this recent round of rumours, Nick did address talk of a divorce during an interview with Parade back in May.

"You kind of have to ignore it because every week it's something different," the TV star said. "And if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you…"

There's no merit or truth to it. It's kind of humorous, really.

It couldn't be further off from the truth..."
