Nicole Kidman's father has reportedly died after suffering a fall in Singapore

Nicole Kidman's family is in shock after the star's father died in Singapore. According to the Australian press, Dr Antony Kidman was in the Southeast Asian country to visit Nicole's younger sister Antonia Kidman, who lives there with her husband Craig Marran and their six children. Nicole's publicist Wendy Day said:" The family is in shock and is grieving...I think that some time and privacy is needed to deal with this shock and tragedy."

It is believed that the doctor, who was in his 80s, fell in his hotel room shortly after having breakfast. He was then taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital around 10am local time and was pronounced dead a short time later.Dr Kidman was a clinical psychologist at Royal North Shore Hospital and a director of health psychology at the University of Technology Sydney. He was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2005 for his services to health. The UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs paid tribute to his colleague in statement, saying: "It is with great sadness that we learn of Dr Tony Kidman's sudden passing. "During his 43 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Tony has contributed greatly – as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner." "Tony will be missed by all at UTS. Our thoughts are with his family at this time."

The Kidmans are incredibly close and the family was last together in January when Anthony and his wife Janelle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In June, the Cold Mountain star attended a red carpet gala with her father and husband Keith Urban.Nicole has said of him: "He's a great father, I can call him at three in the morning and he's there for me.She previously spoke about how her father supported her ambitions when she was growing up. "By the time I was a teenager, I had developed skills as a writer," she said. "My father encouraged me to think about a career in journalism. They allowed me any artistic outlet I wanted."
