Britain's best-known downhill skier Chemmy Alcott has entered the Guinness Book of Records by taking part in a non-stop roller ski-ing marathon. Newlywed Chemmy and four friends were delighted to 'ski' more than 235 miles in 24 hours smashing the old record by an impressive 35 miles.
Chemmy, who retired from downhill skiing at the end of last season after taking part in an impressive four Olympics, told HELLO!: "It was much more testing than any downhill race I have ever done."
Chemmy, 32, and the four friends pounded a gym-style ski-ing machine at Canary Wharf in South East London continually to make the record books.
The challenge which raises hundreds of pounds for the charity Ski 4 Cancer is a pre-curser for the group cross-country ski-ing across The Arctic Circle next March. They will travel 160 km in three days in temperatures as low as -35C. Chemmy said: "It will be tough as it is the equivalent of four marathons. But I am determined to do it to raise money for the charity. It has been proven that sport and health can help combat cancer and that is what I am striving to."
The ski in Canary Wharf is the third time that Chemmy – whose marriage to Dougie Crawford in June featured exclusively in HELLO!– has entered the Guinness Book of Records.
She also holds the world record for beer mat flipping after catching 30 beer mats in 30 seconds and was part of a 600 strong group who set the bike bell orchestra record by playing their bike bells at the same time earlier this year.
